Sweden: Thematic Advisor - Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE)

The CPiE Thematic Advisor (TA) will contribute to the thematic development and quality assurance of child protection in emergencies programmes. The TA will provide thematic support, technical assistance and capacity building on CPiE to colleagues, other Save the Children members and Save the Children country and regional programmes and partners. The TA will support the implementation of CPiE programmes, including quality assurance against the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action, and pilot methods for Child Protection stand-alone and integrated interventions, with a special focus on Children and armed conflict.

Travel, including to complex emergencies, is part of the work.

The TA is expected to contribute to the overall development of the thematic area of Child Protection, this will include participation and coordination of groups and networks within and external to Save the Children.

The role holder is part of the International Programme Department, section for Thematic Support and reports to the Head of Emergency Unit.

In order to be successful in this role you'll bring:

  • University degree within a relevant field (or equivalent knowledge acquired through other means)
  • Proven history of extensive work in humanitarian setting in general and in particular working with child protection in emergencies during 6 years or more.
  • Specific experience of working to protect children in conflict
  • Knowledge of International Humanitarian and Human Rights Law
  • Experience in integrated sector approaches and/or relevant experience in other cross-sectorial work where child protection has been included
  • Experience in leading or co-leading external or internal coordination mechanisms and groups.
  • Experience from work with thematic development and knowledge development
  • Demonstrated ability to train and facilitate
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a changing, multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships and teambuilding
  • Excellent writing, communications and networking skills in English. Additional languages is an asset Desirable qualifications are understanding of inter-agency child protection work, and experience in using the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action. You will also need ability to lead and inspire others, deliver results and work both independently and as part of a team.
