How can you make a difference?

UNICEF Country Office in Costa Rica partners with the Government to promote the protective environment and the development of opportunities for all children, according to the Country Cooperation Program signed between the Government and UNICEF. This document is based on the strategic guidelines of the Common Framework for Cooperation of the United Nations and the National Development Plan of the Government.

Our cooperation strategy focuses on:

  1. Child development and quality education
  2. Protective environments and social management
  3. Communication, knowledge management and advocacy

The programme of early childhood development and education works closely with the Ministry of Education, the National System for Integral Protection and other institutions to strengthen their capacities and to promote children’s access to quality education.

The successful candidate will work specifically with the project of hospital pedagogy which is supported by UNICEF in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Children’s National Hospital.

Hospital pedagogy is an educational alternative for the comprehensive care of children, who have a health condition that prevents them from continuing their education in the regular education system.

Therefore, through hospital pedagogy we aim to enhance the education of children who are regular users of the health care system or are hospitalized during extended periods of time.

How can you make a difference?

The Early Childhood Development and Education Programme Intern will work in the UNICEF Costa Rica Country Office Education unit and will have the opportunity to contribute to make a significant impact on the development and implementation of the hospital pedagogy service model and to support country´s capacity to provide children with quality education.

The main activities are:

  1. Partner with the Ministry of Education and the Children’s National Hospital to gather quantitative and qualitative information about the hospital pedagogy service model and its particularities.
  2. Design various methods to collect, analyze and report data regarding users and services provided by the hospital pedagogy model.
  3. Conduct interviews with personnel in charge of the services as well as its users and document the conducted field work.
  4. Benchmark the topic of hospital pedagogy for the best practices and lessons learned.
  5. Analyze gathered information and prepare a comprehensive report about the hospital pedagogy service model.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  1. An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in *A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.

  4. Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
