People in Need is seeking a candidate for the position of a PROJECT COORDINATOR JUNIOR in the Latin American Program of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (HRD). The primary goal of People in Need's Centre for Human Rights and Democracy is to support independent individuals and groups in countries with repressive regimes who are the target of persecution, harassment, or arrests because of their opinions or activities, and to strengthen civil society.

The Latin American Program has been supporting civil society in several countries in the region. The program focuses on:

  • Capacity building for civil society organizations and providing support for their activities
  • Direct aid to Human Rights Defenders
  • International advocacy

For our Central American office in San Jose, Costa Rica, People in Need (PIN) is seeking a Project Coordinator Junior to join our local team. The Project Coordinator will support our programs in various Latin American countries and will have a chance to work on important human rights projects in the region.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Remotely monitoring projects in selected Latin American countries
  • Writing project reports and proposals in English and Spanish
  • Maintaining communication with local partners in Latin America
  • Maintaining social media profiles
  • Organizing travels, study visits and trainings for Latin American partners and beneficiaries in Central America
  • Handling administrative tasks
  • Completing other tasks within Latin American Program

SUITABLE CANDIDATES SHOULD POSSESS:

  • Be Costa Rican, or legal resident with the right to work in Costa Rica (to be based in San Jose)
  • Fluent written and spoken Spanish, professional writing skills in English
  • University degree or relevant experience with working on projects (at least 2 years)
  • Good IT skills (spreadsheet and database)
  • Interest in human rights, activism and civil society
  • Good coordination skills
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Cultural sensitivity, previous work/travel in countries in the Caribbean, Central and South America is a great advantage
  • Ability to travel regionally and overseas
  • Good management and coordination skills
  • Availability to work full time

  • Full time job contract, 1.100 USD gross per month, with social security benefits and annual severance recognition
